My Virtual Superbowl Party

What a great day for the New Orleans Saints and social media. And I had a blast. I was pretty pumped for this great match-up I had predicted early in the season – New Orleans Saints versus Indianapolis Colts. A few thousand people were at my party, some I knew, most I didn’t until yesterday. And it didn’t cost me more than a few beers and pretzels. My party was online and it was better than sitting in a bar next to some obnoxious over-served Vikings fan with a grudge. It was me, a roaring fire in the fireplace, a laptop, the aforementioned beverage and snacks, an amused wife, and a few thousand acquaintances from #SB44.

My party was on Twitter where thousands of us tweeted our pleasure or displeasure, surprise or angst, happiness and sorrow. I had more interesting commentary from my new friends around the globe than could be achieved in-person. If you’d like to see the progression of Saintdom and comments about the other game – the best Superbowl commercials – you can read the volume of comments at #SB44.

The other guests at my virtual party were Tim Caulkins of Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a number of his hand-picked judges providing commentary via #MENGonline on Twitter while reviewing each commercial live as they assembled their annual Superbowl Top 10 Commercials list. Tim, the judges, and a few hundred members of MENG (Marketing Excutive Network Group) proffered their likes and dislikes of each commercial as determined through strict criteria.

Needless to say, I was exhausted by the end of the fourth quarter…all that chattering. And the Saints won.
