I have been receiving the magazine called deliver a magazine for marketers, and I really enjoy it. The magazine offers marketing insights and tips on how we can really hit it home when it comes to our client/customers’ needs. It has articles that talk about different topics like, social media, direct mail and even the latest technology – all from the marketing point of view. Each issue touches upon different topics. As I started reading the current issue, I came across a line that really hits home for me personally, it stated “No matter what you choose to read, you’ll see that print is definitely not a goner. It’s evolving as new technologies emerge.” I highly recommend subscribing to either the printed magazine or the online version.

Think About Conducting A Think Tank

imagesThis past week, I had the opportunity to participate in a think tank. The objective was to help a prominent national company augment its service portfolio in the face of declining demand for core offerings.

Experts representing several perspectives were invited. Side-by-side with company leadership were executives from other industry-leading companies, economists, marketers, market researchers and consultants.

Once there, overcoming a business challenge of this magnitude seemed at once both overwhelming and doable. That is, generating ideas for solving someone’s problem ramps up rather effortlessly with such a knowledgeable team. What complicates the issue is the implementation piece of the puzzle. It requires thoughtful analysis about shifts in infrastructure, culture, resources and investments. This was more difficult. The team got there, however, generating tactical opportunities the host company is now exploring and vetting. Not a bad outcome for an eight hour endeavor.

All of us should take the opportunity to gather bright people, pose difficult problems and spend productive time working through solutions. It’s an invaluable tool we should all grab from our work bench more often.
